Adam Ritchie

Birthdate: May 25, 1940 in London

Education: Studied Economics and Literature at Amherst College, Massachusetts, USA. After 10 years as a professional photographer in New York and London, Adam taught himself masonry and built houses in Wales. While there, all of his photos and negatives were destroyed except for two series - on the Velvet Underground and Pink Floyd.

Aesthetic: Immersed in the London and New York underground scenes, Adam photographed everything he saw. His pictures are shot in the heart of the action.

Influences: In the early 1960s, he soaked up the music of Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Cecil Taylor, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell and absorbed the words of Kerouac, Flann O'Brien, Dostoïevski, Beckett, Genet and Burroughs.

Currently: Ritchie is very happy in his retirement in London by singing in two different choirs, growing lots of fruit and vegetables, Irish Set Dancing and taking classes.
