Portfolio No. 7
At 20, Fanny is already making a living from her art. Her attraction to photography is hard to explain: “my curiosity in the appeal that certain people have makes me want to capture it maybe...” This hypothesis seems a good one: the charisma of her subjects – children; adolescents; cheeky, fragile, rebellious and sulky youth – is bewitching. As if confirming the theory she refers to Michael Haneke, whose films like Funny Games or Benny’s Video are full of characters at once affecting and disquieting.
The colour red, chosen by Fanny as a common visual thread through this portfolio, gives her work a particular and unsettling aura. “I like red for its symbolism and impact in the composition of my photos. It can be used to denote passion, blood, the devil, fire, strength, aggression, power, impulsivity, rage and just general emotion. It’s open to individual interpretation.”
Fanny’s work certainly arouses a profusion of different emotions – everything but indifference.
