Mangan looks at the transforming relationships between humans and the earth. His life long history with the American west landscape grounds his work and his belief in the beauty and essential nature of our interaction. His work has show internationally. He will be apart of an eight person landscape group exhibition titled, Terra Incognito at Kunsthalle Dusseldorf, Germany, from March 13 to June 14.
About pictures from the series Color’d 1, 2011 The second part of a trilogy about the rebirth, Color’d shows men and women taking part in a ceremony in the incredible landscapes of Utah: the naked participants are covered in paint then thrown into water before coming back to the beginning with a new vision of life: “It’s a way of expressing a withdrawal from consumerism, of urban life, a sort of baptism.”The day was blessed by the spiritual leader of the Native American Ute people, local to the area.
